Today we're excited to introduce our new monthly selection of cool/odd/interesting tracks which has made an impression on us in one way or another.
Some are summer essentials, some are hidden treasures and some are just songs we thought needed a share.
DJ Bogdan – Love Inna Basement (Midnite XTC)
Nostalgic breakbeat party vibes on this stomper by Berlin native DJ Bogdan, sampling Objekt’s 2017’s dance floor banger Theme From Q. Some would say the other way around – and some even that DJ Bogdan in fact is the naïve party alias of Objekt.
Soundbwoy Killah – Pang
In the more rooted and down-to-earth-ish end of Soundbwoy Killah’s excellent debut album Halcyon Daze, you’ll find Pang - a tribute to the late night walk home with swinging breaks and moody pads.
DJ Logic 1000 – Please Forgive Me
If you’re building up a lazy house roller like DJ Logic 1000 has done with “Please Forgive Me”, the already sold-out self-released tune by Samantha Poulter, less is more. A high-pitched vocal sample, a lazy, echoing baseline and a stumbling housey drumbeat does the trick for this late 2019 summer jam.
Jenny - Italia is the End of the World
This 3:30 minute jangle pop-banger from mysterious Danish band, Jenny, could easily be classified as the under-the-radar release of the summer. Their mix of 60's vocal harmonies, Casio-sounding synthesizers and a naive youthful chorus immediately makes this track a personal highlight. The video is amazing as well. It's gonna be exciting to follow this weird pop-project in the future.
TTY - Buttercream
Following a string of EP-projects over the past few years, the London based collective TTY released their first album 'Cry, But Go' earlier this summer on the infamous Young Turks imprint. Clocking in at only 23 minutes, the record still manages to be incredibly diverse, stretching from gully, grime-infused tracks such as ‘ABG’ to more experimental and soul-infused Hip-Hop with tracks like ‘Buttercream’.
Kali Malone - The Sacrificial Code
‘The Sacrificial Code’ is a deep dive into the amazing sound universe of Kali Malone, characterized by her slow, rumbling organ recordings, which despite their minimalist nature manages to create a very grand and blissful listen throughout its two-hour run-time. Definitely an album worth checking out, if you need something to relax to.
Drexciya - Lost Vessel
Taken from a new reissue of one of Drexciya's finest works, the 'Hydro Doorways' EP was originally released as a complimentary record to their ‘Neptune’s Lair’ album on Tresor from 1999. 'Lost Vessel' encapsulates the quirky, quick and aquatic electro sound which has come to define the Detroit Techno duo throughout time - Guaranteed dancefloor material!
Crystallmess - FLESH
A cinematic and quite dramatic track from french producer, Crystallmess. The track begins with bombastic synthesizers and a voice that keeps repeating the phrase, "in the flesh". A beat kicks in, and a 9 minute emotional journey is about to begin.
